Our Relationship With Leather

We have a small atelier in Istanbul.  From here our leather masters, who have been working with leather for more than two decades, spent a considerable amount of time coming up with a weaving design that is unique to us that greatly minimizes the amount of leather wasted after cutting. 

What that means is that we work with the supplest, full-grain leather in such a way that very little goes unused. 

So, with painstaking precision and craftsmanship of the highest quality, our leather experts mold, stitch, cut and tuck leather to give you a bag that has a luxurious look and feel.

Our Relationship With The Community

We work with the members of an Istanbul non-profit organization, Foundation For The Support of Women’s Work, in the crafting of our bags. 

This NGO aims to improve the quality of life and economic well-being of low-income women.  With Mianqa, you don’t just get a bag. You support a community.

What Does Mianqa Mean?

The legendary bird of Anqa is the mystical Phoenix in English.

According to Greek mythology, the phoenix bird is a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn. It is said to live for several hundred years before burning itself and then being born again from its ashes.

Mianqa represents the ‘renewal’ of the minds that came together from all over the fashion world to create this new brand that is a ‘new birth’ of what they perceive fashion to be.

It also speaks to the sustainability aspect of the brand.

Simply put, Mianqa means ‘my renewal’.  That is what each bag is for us – a renewal of the dream we started.
